About this event

CEO’s and other executives are exceptionally good at building businesses and making money. Typically, they are not as good at keeping it. Join our panel of experts for a discussion on how to protect that which is earned from increasing taxes, market conditions, business failure, disability, disagreement and divorce.

About Eric W. Schwarz, CFP®:

Eric is the Managing Director of Cleveland Private Trust Company. From his office in downtown Cleveland he coordinates the many services and solutions to help clients navigate the complexities of personal and corporate finance. Acting as a Personal CFO, these include next generation education, business transition planning, financial planning, trust services and banking. His clients range from successful individuals to family offices, privately held businesses, private equity firms and philanthropic organizations.

Mr. Schwarz has a 25+ year career in finance and wealth planning field. As a Certified Financial Planner™, he works closely with business owners and their advisors. As leader of the team, Eric assesses the wealth holder’s financial goals and banking structure, pulling resources from the expert affiliates in his network.

Eric was raised in Akron, Ohio and lives with his wife and family in Amherst, Ohio.

About James S. Aussem:

James S. Aussem, is a shareholder in the Cleveland law firm of Cavitch Familo & Durkin, Co., LPA, as well as a member of its board of directors and Co- Chair of the Business Practice Group. Mr. Aussem’s practice is focused on succession planning, mergers and acquisitions as well as estates and trusts.

Mr. Aussem served as the 90th president of the Society of Financial Service Professionals from September 1, 2017 until August 31, 2018 and received the Society’s 2019 Kenneth Black, Jr., Leadership Award in 2019. He has been chosen as one of America’s Best Lawyers every year since 2009 and for the past 10 years he has been chosen in two categories, Corporate Law and Trusts and Estates.

Mr. Aussem is a frequent speaker, facilitator, and instructor for many professional organizations on topics such as business succession, buying and selling businesses, estate planning, insurance, trusts and estates.

Mr. Aussem has been designated an Accredited Estate Planner (AEP®) by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils. About David S. Dickenson III:

Since graduating from The University of Virginia in 1993, David S. Dickenson III has been a broker and consultant for Life, Disability and Long-Term Care Insurance, as well as Executive and Employee Voluntary Benefit Programs. An expert in his field for decades, clients, advisors, and colleagues partner with David to analyze existing insurance and to secure appropriate benefits.

David currently serves as the Chairman of Cleveland Clinic Children’s Council from 2019 to 2022. In addition, David will be the Chairman of the Gift Planning Advisory Committee at the Cleveland Museum of Art from 2020 to 2022.

Since 1999, David and his entire family have been active in support of Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital. His family finds their involvement in local children’s health systems to be very rewarding.

David and his family enjoy a variety of outdoor activities and exercise, including yoga, golf, swimming in the ocean, and traveling.

About John Hannon:

John Hannon is President & CEO at Evarts Tremaine. He started with the agency in 2000. A graduate of Miami University with a degree in Economics, he earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 2004. He is a founding member of the Private Risk Management Association. He is also a graduate of the 2017 Certified Advisor of Personal Insurance course at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. John has served on many insurance company advisory councils throughout his career to promote industry growth including Berkley Mid-Atlantic, Encova, Liberty Mutual, and Progressive, among others.

John is a founding member of Emerging Leaders of Keystone, and serves on the board of Keystone’s Best Practices Advisory Council. He lives in Shaker Heights with his wife and two sons, and enjoys skiing with his family during Cleveland’s “beautiful” winters.
